HAI Group is now accepting applications for our annual Risk Management Awards!

HAI Group’s Risk Management Awards program features five categories that recognize outstanding work in a variety of safety and risk management initiatives. See below for more details for each category and directions on submitting your application.

To enter, you must be a member of the Housing Authority Risk Retention Group, Inc. (HARRG) or Housing Authority Property Insurance, A Mutual Company (HAPI). Programs designed by consultants or service providers are not eligible. Previous submission are not eligible.

To enter, see below for the five categories and complete the application for the appropriate category. Entries must be submitted by Friday, May 3, 2024. Winners will be selected by the 2024 Board of Directors and Committee Members and awarded at the September 2024 Board of Directors and Committee Members meeting.

Collaboration with Local/Community Organization:

Recognizes public housing agencies that partner with local community organizations in support of the agency's employees or residents.

The criteria for submissions may include the following:

  • Relates to prevention, control, or reduction in loss to the housing operation
  • Relates to health, safety, and/or wellness
  • Employee or resident service focus
  • Describe how the partnership/relationship started
  • Demonstrate an established relationship with proven results

The winner will receive a monetary award in the amount of $500 in the form of a check paid to the housing agency.

Complete and submit the following application to be considered for this category. Don't forget to include photographs and/or examples, if possible.

Employee Safety Award:

This award looks at a housing agency's programs that relate to the overall safety and/or wellness of its employees.

The criteria for submissions may include the following:

  • Relates to prevention, control, or reduction in loss to the housing operation
  • Show a reduction in workers' compensation claims or provide protection for a certain type of injury or issue
  • Be easy for other housing agencies to implement
  • Demonstrate positive results

The winner will receive a monetary award in the amount of $500 in the form of a check paid to the housing agency.

Best Use of Grant Program or RAMP Dividend:

This award examines how a housing agency uses a grant funded program.

The criteria for submissions may include the following:

  • Relates to prevention, control, or reduction in loss to the housing operation
  • Demonstrate how the funds were used
  • Demonstrate the benefit to the housing agency
  • Be easy for other housing agencies to implement

The winner will receive a monetary award in the amount of $500 in the form of a check paid to the housing agency.

Resident Safety Award:

Recognizes the best programs pertaining to overall residents safety and/or wellness.

The criteria for submissions may include the following:

  • Relates to prevention, control, or reduction in loss to the housing operation
  • Demonstrate a reduction in losses/provide protection for a certain type of injury or issue
  • Be easy for other housing agencies to implement
  • Show positive results

The winner will receive a monetary award in the amount of $500 in the form of a check paid to the housing agency.

Risk Champion of the Year:

Recognizes a housing agency employee who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to risk management.

The criteria for submissions may include the following:

  • Candidates must be nominated by a fellow employee, housing agency peer, or HAI Group employee
  • Demonstrate that the candidate has implemented a risk management culture within the organization
  • Include a completed questionnaire with the submission form
    Candidates must have risk management responsibilities

The Risk Champion of the Year will receive an award of $750 paid to the housing agency. The winner is also invited to HAI Group's annual Board of Directors and Committee Members Meeting in September to accept their award. The winner's housing authority will be reimbursed up to $500 for airfare, one night's stay at the host hotel, and the meals provided at the meeting.

In the event the winner is a board or committee member, ordinary reimbursements available for attending the meeting are not impacted, and remain available. If the winner does not attend the meeting or the meeting is held virtually, no reimbursement for travel, hotel stay, or meals will be provided to the winner outside of the $750 prize.
