Since the inception of HAI Group, philanthropic efforts have been of utmost importance to the employees, Board Members, members and their residents. In recent years, the fundraising and holiday giving has been coordinated and executed by HAI Group’s Community and Resident Services Team. This Team is made up of a group of HAI Group employees that work toward the common goal of being relentlessly committed to serving communities both locally and nationally through community service. The focus is to encourage employees to reach beyond their daily jobs and touch the lives of those within the housing community by supporting our members and to identify opportunities for community involvement.

Many of the efforts undertaken by the Team during the holiday season, ties into HAI Group’s more profound organizational mission to be relentlessly committed to providing reliable insurance solutions, products, and services to the affordable housing community in a manner which exceeds expectations. For those in need, it can be hard during the holidays, and HAI Group works hard to make these times easier for those in these situations. For example, the Team has continued many of its giving traditions, like providing backpacks for the homeless, where 20 backpacks are filled with toiletries, food, and other necessities and delivered to (HRA) in Bristol, Connecticut, who then distributes the bags to those in need. Another tradition, a favorite of the HAI Group employees, is providing children from public housing authority’s gifts. This year 34 children from the Enfield Housing Authority (Connecticut) gifts for the holidays. Each child filled out a wish list, providing descriptions of all the toys, clothes, and other items they desired and HAI Group employees shop for those items. All of the gifts will be delivered this December.

The Team has also expanded their services to include new events, fundraisers, and drives. They donated to the Home Awareness Campaign being led by Topeka Housing Authority (Kansas). Also, they worked to fill laundry baskets with useful household items including cleaning supplies, towels, sheets, and cooking utensils for those who are transitioning from being homeless into their apartments through the For Goodness Sake organization. Earlier this holiday season, they collected donations for a Thanksgiving vegetable drive for Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries (GWIM) (Connecticut), an organization which provides hot meals, emergency food, and supportive services to those in need.

HAI Group continues to support other organizations this Holiday Season the ALS Therapy Development Institute, Cheshire Lights of Hope, The Cheshire Community Food Pantry, Brass City Rescue Alliance, and the South Park Inn.

All items purchased through the charitable giving efforts for a holiday were covered by the fundraising that HAI Group and the Team does from September through December. Each fundraiser is led by HAI Group employees and could not be done without the mission commitment by Ed Malaspina, HAI Group’s CEO and all of the employees.
